Rivenoak Medieval Demo (Event Cancelled)

Friday April 17th, 2020
Chico, California

As of March 16, 2020, all events scheduled in the Northern California and Northern Nevada regions of the West Kingdom are cancelled, per the Crown of the West. This is in compliance with current Federal restrictions applying to the lower-48 states against gatherings of 50 people or more, in order to slow the spread of COVID-19.

The Principality of Oertha (Alaska) and the Barony of the Far West (Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and Guam) should follow their local, state, and federal guidelines during this period and act within those rules.

There is no definitive timeline for resuming central Kingdom events yet, but anticipate the ban to last at least through mid-May 2020. More information will be forthcoming about how this will affect Western Crown Tourney and Mists Coronet Tourney in the immediate future, as well as other events in the coming months.

This is a rapidly evolving situation and the Western Crown and Kingdom Seneschal are working closely together and monitoring information released from State and Federal officials. They are acting in the best interests of the West Kingdom, and the health, safety, and well-being of the Populace is foremost in their minds. Please continue to support them as they face these difficult decisions going forward.

Join the Barony of Rivenoak in promoting the arts and skills of pre-17th century to students and teachers at Marsh Junior High School. We will be putting on an all-day demo for the entire seventh grade class and other students and staff who visit the demo. Students will experience hands-on-activities at stations facilitated by SCA volunteers.

We will be setting up period a encampment where attendees can explore activities essential to medieval life. We will be active on campus from 8am to 5pm on Friday, April 17, 2020.

If you wish to participate as a volunteer, please contact the Demo Steward Bjorn well in advance of the Demo with your interest and how you hope to contribute to the Demo.
The Baronial Seneschal Seamus is assisting in organizing the Demo and serving as Bjorn’s backup.

All are invited to attend the Rivenoak Fool’s Tourney on Saturday, April 18th, 2020.
Only Volunteers approved by Bjorn or Seamus are permitted to attend the Friday Demo.

Rivenoak has been working to develop a strong relationship with local schools. This demo is an important contribution to the SCA’s educational mission. This demo will be a lot of fun but must be conducted in an appropriate manner. Please do not show up without prior permission.
